A day after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge made unsubstantiated claims of ‘thousand deaths’ at the Maha Kumbh, another Congress MP courted controversy with contentious remarks on the sacred Hindu gathering.
Pappu Yadav, a Congress leader and Purnia MP, said, “I won’t take a Baba’s name but I would quote him. He said those who have died in Maha Kumbh have attained moksha so I wish Babas, Nagas, politicians, and VIPs who visit Maha Kumbh should take a dip and die there to attend moksha.”
A controversial statement by INDI Alliance MP Pappu Yadav regarding the Kumbh stampede.

Earlier yesterday, Congress president and Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, claimed “thousands” died at the ongoing Maha Kumbh without providing evidence to back his claim and days after the Uttar Pradesh government confirmed 30 deaths in an unfortunate incident last month.
Kharge’s outlandish claims attracted protests from treasury benches and VP Dhankar, who asked him to authenticate his claim of a thousand deaths at the Maha Kumbh.
Before Kharge, Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Ram Gopal Yadav alleged massive administration failure and claimed that “thousands had died,” with some bodies “thrown into the Ganga” and others “buried.” Yadav preferred no argument to back his claims.
