A shocking case involving rape, blackmail, extortion and forced religious conversion has surfaced from the Sonegaon area of Nagpur, Maharashtra. Based on the complaint of a 24-year-old Hindi married woman, police have arrested two accused, identified as Ayyaz Taj Madare and Amin Sheikh, both residents of Kalmeshwar. A third accused, Hazrat Maulana from Tamia in Madhya Pradesh, is currently absconding and police teams are searching for him.
The Hindu woman works in property dealing, while her husband serves in the Indian Air Force and was posted in another city when the incidents took place. According to police, the matter came to light only after her husband returned home a few days ago. The woman then shared the entire incident with him, after which the couple approached Sonegaon Police Station and filed a complaint.
Contact made on the pretext of buying land
As per the complaint, the woman knew Ayyaz Madare from her school days. In February 2025, he contacted her claiming that he was interested in purchasing a plot of land. During one such meeting, he took her to a hotel on Wardha Road.
The woman stated that she was given juice mixed with an intoxicating substance. After she lost consciousness, Ayyaz raped her and recorded videos and photographs of the incident.
Blackmail and extortion
The complaint says that after recording the videos and photographs, the accused repeatedly threatened to make them public. Out of fear, the woman remained silent for months. During this period, she says she was sexually exploited several times and was also forced to hand over ₹39,000.
Police are examining the financial transactions linked to the complaint as part of their investigation.
Pressure to accept Islam
The woman further stated that she was not only subjected to sexual abuse but was also pressured to convert to Islam. She claimed that she was made to participate in different religious rituals against her wishes.
A video that surfaced during the investigation reportedly shows the accused making her recite the Kalma while performing certain rituals.
Rituals conducted in a secluded area
According to the complaint, on May 31, the accused took her to the Kalmeshwar area of Nagpur. There, she met Amin Sheikh and Hazrat Maulana. The three then took her to an isolated location where they carried out religious rituals and informed her that her conversion had already taken place.
The woman also stated that during this incident, the accused tried to sexually assault her again.
Police register multiple charges
Following the complaint, police registered a case under charges of rape, extortion, attempt to convert, and provisions of the Maharashtra Prohibition of Superstition and Black Magic Act. An investigation has been launched into the matter.
Police have seized and are examining mobile phone chats, bank transaction records, CCTV footage from relevant locations, viral videos and other electronic evidence connected to the case.
The two arrested accused were presented before a court, which remanded them to five days of police custody. Efforts are continuing to trace and arrest the third accused, Hazrat Maulana.
