The National Investigation Agency (NIA) apprehended a man named Alfazid over suspected links to Islamic terror outfit ISIS. He was arrested on Tuesday (28th January) during raids in the Purasaivakkam area in the Chennai district of Tamil Nadu.
The central agency has been conducting raids at 20 locations across the State in connection to an ISIS module. NIA has received intelligence that several individuals are recruiting people to join ISIS.
As part of the operation, it raided the private flats and properties of suspects Fazid and Sadiq in Thirumullaivasal village. Similar raids were carried out in Purasaivakkam and nearby suburbs.
NIA is eyeing to crack down on ISIS terrorists and sleeper cells which can threaten India’s internal security.
