No more ‘fact checkers’ on Facebook, to be replaced by ‘Community Notes’: Mark Zuckerberg

Facebook is ending its ‘fact-checking’ program and replacing that with ‘Community Notes’ announced Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. Facebook’s move seems to be inspired by similar Community Notes on X (formerly Twitter), which has proved to be highly popular way of fact-checking any post.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced a series of major changes to the company’s moderation policies and practices in his Instagram Post, citing a desire to embrace free speech. One of the major changes is steppng away from their “trusted fact checkers” to making it a more Community-driven program.

Zuckerberg pointed to the recent US elections where Donald Trump defeated Democrat Kamala Harris as a major influence on the company’s decision, and criticized governments and legacy media for allegedly pushing to censor more and more.

Interestingly,  Mark Zuckerberg had earlier shared how the Biden administration in US weaponised political censorship to curtail free speech on platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.
