Indian Chess Grandmaster D Gukesh became World Champion in Singapore, as he defeated defending champion Ding Liren at the World Chess Championship on Thursday, December 12.
Following Gukesh’s win in the final over Ding Liren, the quality of the chess during the game was questioned by former world champion Vladimir Kramnik, who posted on X (formerly Twitter) – ‘end of chess as we know it’, since the deciding game of the final was decided after a blunder by Ding Liren.
World Number 1 Magnus Carlsen supported Kramnik’s views and said the quality of the match was of ‘a second or third-round match of an open tournament’, and not of World Championship Final.
However, speaking to BBC World, the youngest ever World Chess Champion D Gukesh said he isn’t really hurt by Magnus Carlsen’s comments. Gukesh was asked if he was hurt by Carlsen’s comments, and he simply said, “Not really.”
