In Odisha’s Sundergarh district, a 7-month pregnant woman was brutally shot dead by 2 miscreants in her own house while they were trying to loot her gold chain. As per reports, Simamayee Behera of Bonaigarh, Sunderarh had opened the front door of her house after hearing knocks on the night of Tuesday, 11 December. 2 miscreants had then barged into the house and tried to snatch the gold ornaments she was wearing.

Behera had screamed at the robbery attempt, trying to call her family members for help. The miscreants then fired at the pregnant woman to silence her and fled the scene. Simamayee’s husband Deben Behera had rushed to the front door after hearing the noise and found his wife grievously injured. Simamayee was 7 months pregnant and the bullet had hit her in the chest.
The family rushed her to the government hospital at Bonaigarh, but the doctors had announced that she was ‘brought dead’. The police have started a probe to ascertain whether there were only 2 dacoits or more people involved in the incident. The doctors have stated that Simamayee had a bullet wound on her chest, but a detailed post-mortem will have to be done to confirm whether any other injuries were there.
