Four hundred trainees of Infosys’ Mysuru campus were reportedly laid off by the Indian IT giant for failing 3 assessment tests. The trainees had got their offer letters back in 2022, but they had to wait 2.5 years for onboarding due to low hiring in the IT industry over the global slowdown.
As per a report in Moneycontrol, the trainees have stated that Infosys management had deliberately set very tough questions for their evaluation tests just to fire them. The 400 trainees are roughly half of the fresh recruits onboarded in October 2024. The trainees have also complained of misbehaviour by staff and management, and the forceful snatching away of their mobile phones.
Infosys, however, has said in a statement that the contracts signed by the trainees mentioned that they would be laid off if they failed 3 consecutive evaluations, called internal assessments. “This process has been in place for over 2 decades to ensure high quality talent availability for our clients”, the company added.
Moneycontrol reported that the failed trainees are being called in batches of 50 and are being told to sign letters of ‘mutual separation’.
