In a major success against the cross-border drug mafia, the Amritsar Rural Police busted a drug-smuggling racket, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav confirmed on Friday (30th January). The police seized a consignment of 51.5 kg of heroin packed in 103 packets and arrested two operatives linked with the racket. An FIR has been lodged at the Gharinda police station.
According to Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, examination of the phones of the operatives caught by the police revealed that they were working in coordination with a Pakistan-based handler. “Preliminary investigation reveals that the accused was in active connivance with their #Pakistan-based handler, and they were involved in cross-border drug trafficking. Detailed examination of mobile phones has unearthed multiple communication trails and other incriminating digital evidence,” DGP Yadav wrote on X on Friday. “FIR has been registered at PS Gharinda under the NDPS Act. Further investigation is underway to trace forward and backward linkages of the network,” he further wrote.
