Kerala: Police and ATS arrest 27 Bangladeshis, infiltrators had jobs and Aadhar cards

On Friday (31st January), the police apprehended 27 illegal immigrants from Bangladesh who have been staying and working in Kochi city of Kerala.

The assignment dubbed ‘Operation Clean’ was carried out by a joint team of the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and Ernakulam police on Thursday (30th January). The Bangladeshis were nabbed from a house.

“They have been in Kerala for varying periods and all of them have been working. Most of them had Aadhaar cards. They claimed to have crossed the Bangladesh border and secured Indian documents with the help of some agents. We have to track them down as well. Whether they had been to other States is also being verified,” informed Deputy SP Vaibhav Saxena.

The accused were booked under relevant sections of the Passport Act and the Registration of Foreigners Act. They were produced before a court and remanded to custody.

Earlier this month, about 7 Bangladeshi infiltrators were nabbed in Kerala. Thus, the total count of illegal immigrants arrested in the State stands at 34.
