Anger erupted in the state capital after Maulana Abdullah Salim of Bihar made an objectionable and controversial remark about the mother of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. On Saturday (March 7, 2026), youths staged a strong protest at Atal Chowk in Lucknow against the statement.
The protesters burnt an effigy of Maulana Abdullah Salim and demanded that an FIR be registered against him immediately and strict action be taken.
One of the protesters said, “Who has given Maulana Salim, who also writes Chaturvedi after his name, the right to make such remarks? Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is working day and night for the development of Uttar Pradesh. An indecent comment against his mother cannot be accepted under any circumstances. If an FIR is not registered against Maulana Salim within four days, a major agitation will be launched across Lucknow.”
The protesters said that such statements send a wrong message in society and cannot be tolerated at any cost. Another protester said, “The way Bihar’s Maulana Salim has commented on the mother of the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, we have taken to the streets today and burnt his effigy in protest. This statement has hurt people’s sentiments. We demand that both the state and central governments register a case against the Maulana and ensure that he is arrested and sent to jail at the earliest.”
The protesters warned that a larger agitation would follow if strict action is not taken. The incident has triggered political and social reactions in various quarters. Police were present at the spot and kept the situation under control. As of now, there has been no official confirmation of any action taken against Maulana Abdullah Salim.
