On Friday (17th January), the Pune police arrested an illegal immigrant from Bangladesh who has been living in India since 2004.
According to reports, the accused was identified as 34-year-old Ehsan Hafiz Shaikh. He is a native of Mymensingh district of Bangladesh.
Shaikh came to India illegally about 20 years ago. With the help of agents in Kolkata, he prepared a fake birth certificate. He used the forged document to obtain other identities including an Indian passport.
The Bangladeshi infiltrator resided in Ahmedabad and Mumbai before shifting to Pune in 2009. He started living in Maharshi Nagar from 2012 onwards.
Ehsan Hafiz Shaikh initially worked at a garment factory but later set up his own T-shirt business. The police recovered 7 Aadhar cards, 2 voter IDs, 2 driving licences, 7 PAN cards, 4 passports, 9 credit cards, 9 debit cards, 8 birth certificates and currencies of 8 nations.
The cops also seized a house rent agreement, business documents and SIM cards from him. Ehsan Hafiz Shaikh was booked under BNS Sections 318, 336,338, and 340 and Sections of the Passport Act and Foreigners Act.
