On the 21st of July 2026 (Tuesday) there was unprecedented drama in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence as Rahul Gandhi along with his MPs conducted a sit in protest. Rahul Gandhi claimed that he was protesting against NEET paper leak and the police action against the violent Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) mob. For context, the mob had become violent, attacking police personnel and attempting to enter the Parliament of India, after which, the police conducted lathi-charge and fired tear gas shells. The sit-in protest was held by Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and several other Congress leaders, before they were detained by the police.

How Rahul Gandhi lied to his own leaders to trick them into participating in the sit-in protest outside residence of PM Modi
According to a report by Indian Express, the protest by Rahul Gandhi was kept a “secret” until the very last moment. Citing Congress sources, Indian Express reports that in order to keep the sit-in protest a ‘secret’, so as to not alert the government and the SPG, Rahul Gandhi did not even inform his 25 odd MPs that they were on their way to hold a sit-in protest in front of the Prime Minister’s residence. This grand lie was concocted by Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and KC Venugopal, the MP said.
The MPs were told that they had to reach the residence of Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence in the same vicinity to wish him for his birthday.
Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence is 10 Rajaji Marg, which is only 500 meters away from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg.
The Indian Express source was quoted as saying, “Once the birthday celebrations were over, we were told to follow Rahul Gandhi’s convoy without asking questions. We did it and reached 7, Lok Kalyan Marg and were told that we have to sit here,” the MP told The Indian Express at the protest site”.
The lies never stop: How Rahul Gandhi changed his demands once the Government engaged with him
During the sit-in protest, the government took the decision to hold a dialogue with Rahul Gandhi. The dialogue was initiated because the sit-in protest was posing significant inconvenience to average commuters and was also a security threat outside the residence of the Prime Minister.
However, even after the government reached out, Rahul Gandhi couldn’t help himself and proceeded to lie.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh has revealed that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi shifted the goalposts during the Congress protest outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence, adding a fresh demand after the Centre agreed to his initial condition.
Singh, the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), reached the protest site nearly an hour after the demonstration began and held a brief discussion with Rahul Gandhi. Despite the meeting, Congress MPs later maintained that the talks had failed to resolve the deadlock, claiming the government’s response fell short of their demands.
In a post on X, Singh said he, along with Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, was deputed by the government to engage with the protesters since the demonstration was being led by senior Congress figures, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi.
Recounting the conversation, Singh claimed Rahul Gandhi told him the protest would be withdrawn if the government agreed to hold a discussion in Parliament on the NEET controversy, alleged paper leaks, and the nationwide protests surrounding the issue.
According to Singh, he immediately sought approval from the government’s top leadership and returned with an assurance that Parliament would indeed take up a discussion on all issues related to NEET and the examination controversy.
Singh said that instead of ending the protest after receiving the assurance, Rahul Gandhi introduced a new precondition. He claimed the Congress leader insisted that Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan must resign before the protest could be called off.
“After being informed that the government had accepted the proposal for a parliamentary discussion, Rahul Gandhi said this alone was not enough and demanded the resignation of the Union Education Minister,” Singh said.
The minister further claimed he reminded Rahul Gandhi that only minutes earlier his sole demand had been a discussion in Parliament. According to Singh, Rahul Gandhi replied that his demands had now changed. Brazening it out, Rahul Gandhi later claimed that it was his prerogative to change demands.
Latest demands of Rahul Gandhi
While in detention, Rahul Gandhi further increased the list of his demands. According to news reports, his list of demands now includes:
- Resignations of Home Minister Amit Shah and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
- Action against police who assaulted students on Monday and withdrawal of cases against students.
- Apology from the Prime Minister for Monday’s crackdown.
- Discussion on the issue in Parliament.
- Education and exam reforms at the earliest
It is pertinent to note here that this is not the first time that Rahul Gandhi has supported violent elements. Even during the Delhi anti-Hindu Riots of 2020, Rahul Gandhi had constantly extended support to rioters and instigated violence along with Sonia Gandhi. In fact, it was revealed exclusively by OpIndia that his close aide, Sachin Rao, was a part of the WhatsApp group where the riots were planned.
