Ram Navami procession attacked near Jama Masjid in Bihar’s Nawada, Muslim mob pelt stones, indulge in vandalism and arson

On Saturday (28th March), a Ram Navami procession was attacked by a Muslim mob in the Roh Bazaar area in Bihar’s Nawada district. It is reported that a Muslim mob started pelting stones on Hindus in the street near the Jama Masjid in the Old Bazaar, when the Hindu procession was moving from Lower Bazaar to Durga Sthan. The stone-pelting resulted in a stampede. Reports say that police officials were also targeted during the Islamist attack.

The stone-pelting led to a stampede, and stones were also thrown at the police. After the procession left, incidents of vandalism and arson occurred in a market about 500 meters away. Reports say that a tempo, a car, and a cart were damaged and set on fire. Approximately five establishments, including a clothing store, were set ablaze.

Upon receiving information about the incident, Superintendent of Police Abhinav Dhiman, Sub-Divisional Officer Amit Anurag, Sub-Divisional Officer Hulas Kumar, and Headquarters DSP Nishu Malik arrived at the spot with a heavy police force.

The police confirmed that the situation was eventually brought under control and no casualties have been reported. In addition, the police also conducted raids at several locations overnight, although no charges have been filed yet.
