Reliance Industries rejects Bloomberg’s claim that 3 tankers with Russian oil are headed to Jamnagar refinery this month

Reliance Industries Limited has strongly rejected a Bloomberg report published on January 2, 2026, which claimed three tankers carrying Russian Urals crude were heading to its Jamnagar refinery complex, the world’s largest.

In an official statement posted on X, RIL called the report “blatantly untrue,” stating that its Jamnagar refinery has not received any Russian oil cargo in approximately the past three weeks and is not expecting any deliveries in January.

The company expressed pain over the misleading news item published, accusing Bloomberg of ignoring a prior denial and tarnishing its image.

The controversy arises amid heightened geopolitical sensitivity over Russian oil trade. US President Donald Trump has put additional tariffs on India, citing its continued purchase of Russian oil.

Indian refiners had halted the purchase of the sanctioned Russian crude following US tariffs. In December, it was reported that Reliance might be buying Ural crude through non-sanctioned entities for India’s domestic market.
