Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake thanks India for $5 billion economic support

Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who is currently on a visit to India, thanked India for economic support during the island nation’s financial meltdown and crucial assistance in restructuring bilateral debt. The Sri Lankan President made this statement on Monday, December 16.

The Sri Lankan President said, “We faced an unprecedented economic crisis some 2 years ago and India supported us immensely to come out of that quagmire. It has also helped us immensely after that, especially in the debt-free structuring process.”

In this statement Dissanayake also said that his country will not allow its territory to be used in any manner that is detrimental to India’s interest.
