Google has become the latest US company to end hiring based on DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) as per reports. The tech giant has updated its investors report with some changes in language, indicating that it will no longer be hiring just to placate DEI advocacy.
Wall Street Journal reported first that Google is changing its recruitment policies, modifying its earlier stated goal to meet a certain recruitment target based on DEI.
After a recent annual review of its corporate policies, Google has reportedly adjusted some of its programs that focused on DEI agenda.
“We’re committed to creating a workplace where all our employees can succeed and have equal opportunities”, a Google spokesperson said, adding, “We’ve updated our [annual investor report] language to reflect this, and as a federal contractor our teams are also evaluating changes required following recent court decisions and executive orders on this topic.”
It its notable here that with Donald Trump coming to power in the USA with a strong mandate and nationalistic support base, the shift from Leftist appeasement policies to a merit-based system has been reflected in many areas of government and corporate in the country. Earlier companies like Boeing and Disney faced criticism over DEI prioritisation over a merit-based recruitment system. Many companies like Wallmart, Meta, Amazon, Pepsi, and McDonald’s have already rolled back their DEI hiring policies in recent months.
