On 10th January, 47-year-old Booth Level Officer (BLO) Hamimul Islam committed suicide in West Bengal. He was the headmaster of a state-funded secondary school for boys in the Paikmarichar area of Murshidabad. His body was found in the school. Now, All India Trinamool Congress (AITC or TMC) leader Bulet (Bullet) Khan has been taken into custody by the authorities on 12th January. The deceased’s wife had mentioned him in a complaint, accusing that he had threatened her husband and also failed to return his money.
The TMC leaders in Murshidabad initially blamed the death on the alleged pressure due to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The party even agitated outside the office of the state’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) in Kolkata. However, the police shed light on the truth and revealed that Islam was very upset when the accused failed to repay a debt of Rs 20 lakh. Furthermore, he not only refused to return the amount but even threatened to murder the headmaster after which he took the extreme step. Khan was charged with aiding and abetting suicide.
A senior official mentioned, “A person named Bullet Khan has been arrested. He is known to be a Trinamool Congress worker. An FIR (First Information Report) has been filed based on the complaints lodged by the family of the deceased BLO. Investigation into the matter is on.”
Bharatiya Janata Party’s Amit Malviya condemned the TMC for politicising the unfortunate event and wrongly assigning blame to the SIR drive. He highlighted the recent disclosure and stated that immediately after the incident, “Mamata Banerjee’s ecosystem of habitual liars and disinformation peddlers pushed the narrative that he had died by suicide due to pressure from SIR-related work.”
He further wrote, “On Monday, the TMC even orchestrated a protest outside the Election Commission office in Kolkata. Large sections of a compromised media echoed this manufactured version without asking questions.” Malviya pointed out Khan’s role and then added, “This is how Mamata Banerjee and the TMC distort the truth and subvert facts to suit their political agenda.”

BJP spokesperson Debjit Sarkar similarly remarked, “This is the real face of Trinamool Congress. They are misleading people regarding the death of BLOs. They are intimidating people through deception,” after the development.
Islam was from the village of Alaipur, which is located in Bhagwangola Block II, while Khan lives in the Murshidabad district near the Ranitala police station. The Lalbagh sub-divisional court heard the case and remanded him to police custody for five days.
