World Number 1 and reigning champion Magnus Carlsen has been disqualified from World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship for dress code violations. Magnus Carlsen was wearing Jeans during the tournament and he refused to change. Carlsen was first fined for the violation, and later disqualified from the tournament.
FIDE (Federation Internationale des Esches) said that Carlsen breached the tournament’s formal dress code by wearing jeans, which are “explicitly prohibited”.
After fining Carlsen $200, FIDE asked him to change into a formal attire but the World Number 1 refused, leading to his disqualification.
Magnus Carlsen refused to file an appeal against the decision by FIDE, and instead called the regulations stupid.
Carlsen said, “I am pretty tired of FIDE, so I want no more of this. I don’t want anything to do with them. I am sorry to everyone at home, maybe it’s a stupid principle, but I don’t think it’s any fun.”
