The Communist govt in Kerala has issued a bizarre order to all science and technology institutions in Kerala preventing them from visiting the disaster sites or sharing their opinion about the incident.

"In the last 1,800 days since Rahul Gandhi was the MP from Wayanad, he has not raised the issue of landslides and floods even once in the Assembly and in the Parliament," said Surya speaking in Lok Sabha today.

The Hume Centre for Ecology and Wildlife Biology in Kalpetta had issued a landslide warning for Mundakkai in Wayanad's Meppadi 15 hours before the huge landslide occurred that destroyed entire villages and killed over 160 people.

Army sources said that 150 deaths have been recorded so far in landslides in Wayanad in Kerala, while around 200 to 250 individuals have been rescued

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team is conducting search and rescue operations along with the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA).

PM Modi also announced ₹2 lakh compensation for the kin of those individuals who died in the catastrophe and ₹50000 for victims injured during the landslide.

Some female students requested that college authorities provide a place for women to offer Namaz prayers on Friday. When their request was not met, they decided to stage protests outside the office of the college's principal, Father Kannadan Francis on the 26th.
