Interestingly, they had recommended retired Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman and Justice Kuttiyil Mathew Joseph for the post of NHRC Chairperson. The Congress leaders claimed that both judges “possess the requisite merit” and represent marginalised communities, which would have made the NHRC “inclusive.” However, all the names proposed by them have been marred with controversies.
