SC questioned Mamata Banerjee government as to why the movie The Kerala Story can’t be screened peacefully in the state when it has been running without issues in the rest of the country
The five-judge Constitution bench comprising of the Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul, S Ravindra Bhat, Hima Kohli and PS Narasimha is dealing with a batch of petitions pertaining to marriage equality rights for LGBTQIA+ community.
Uddhav Thackeray took cognizance of the ruling and attempted to teach 'ethics' to the incumbent Chief Minister and the Dy Chief Minister. He said that CM Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis should resign if at all they have any ethics left.
"Petitioners argued for restoration of status quo ante. However, Thackeray did not face the floor test. Had Uddhav Thackeray not resigned, the status quo could have been restored," the Court said.

This comes after Kerala High Court on May 5 refused to put a stay on the release of Sudipto Sen’s The Kerala Story saying that a community as secular as Kerala would accept the movie for what it is.
