As U.S. military operations intensify against drug cartels operating near Venezuela, President Donald Trump has issued an unmistakably blunt warning: consider Venezuelan skies off-limits. Taking to his Truth Social account, Trump addressed “Airlines, Pilots, Drug Dealers, and Human Traffickers” alike, declaring that “the airspace above and surrounding Venezuela [is] closed in its entirety.”
“To all Airlines, Pilots, Drug Dealers, and Human Traffickers,” Trump writes on his Truth Social network, “please consider THE AIRSPACE ABOVE AND SURROUNDING VENEZUELA TO BE CLOSED IN ITS ENTIRETY,” Trump tweeted.
To all Airlines, Pilots, Drug Dealers, and Human Traffickers, please consider THE AIRSPACE ABOVE AND SURROUNDING VENEZUELA TO BE CLOSED IN ITS ENTIRETY. Thank you for your attention to this matter! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP

The message marks a dramatic escalation in an already heated standoff between Washington and the government of Nicolás Maduro. Over recent weeks, the U.S. has stepped up sanctions, aerial surveillance and counter-narcotics missions across the region, arguing that criminal networks have embedded themselves within Venezuela’s borders.
Caracas, meanwhile, has accused Washington of staging provocations and violating its sovereignty under the guise of anti-drug operations. American officials counter that intelligence suggests heightened security risks emanating from Venezuelan airspace—risks they claim justify aggressive monitoring and potential interdiction.
