MP govt recommends dismissal of Santosh Verma for committing fraud to become IAS, removes him from current posting after he made derogatory remarks about Brahmins

MP cadre senior IAS officer Santosh Verma has been removed from his current posting by the Madhya Pradesh government after it was found that he entered the Indian Administrative Services through fraudulent means. Verma, who was recently embroiled in a controversy after making derogatory remarks against the Brahmin community, was removed from the post of Deputy Secretary, Agriculture Department. A statement released by the Madhya Pradesh government on Thursday (11th December) revealed that the conduct of Verma violated service rules.

Verma secured promotion to IAS through forged documents

The development comes after a departmental inquiry was initiated against Verma, which revealed that he obtained an integrity certificate based on forged and fabricated documents. According to reports, records from an Indore court also revealed that he conspired with a judge to produce fake judgments in a domestic case to secure his promotion to the IAS. He is said to have manipulated judicial records to meet the criteria for promotion through the departmental promotion committee.

“The MP government has removed MP cadre IAS officer Santosh Verma from the post of Deputy Secretary, Agriculture Department, after it was found that he became an IAS officer through fraudulent means. A departmental inquiry is in its final stages against Santosh Verma for allegedly obtaining an integrity certificate based on forged and fabricated documents,” an official familiar with the case reportedly said.

CM Mohan Yadav directed GAD to recommend Verma’s dismissal

“Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav also took cognisance of Madhya Pradesh IAS officer Santosh Verma’s controversial statement regarding the daughters of the Brahmin community. He instructed the General Administration Department (GAD) to take strict action,” the official added. On the Chief Minister’s direction, the GAD recommended the dismissal of Verma from the IAS to the central government. Official records indicate that fake promotion orders were created to promote him from the State Administrative Service to the IAS cadre.

IAS Santosh Verma, who was recently elected as the state president of Anusuchit Jati Evam Janjati Adhikari Evam Karmachari Sangh (AJAKS), made a highly objectionable remark against the Brahmin community on 23rd November during a public event. Verma said that reservations in India should continue until a Brahmin gives his daughter to his son in marriage or forms a relationship with him. This led to a show-cause notice being issued to Verma for violating the All India Services (Conduct and Services) Rules, 1969. His response to the show-cause notice was also considered unsatisfactory. Besides, officials reportedly noted that he continued to make provocative statements during the proceedings. As a result, a formal chargesheet was issued against Verma under the 1969 Rules.
