Thailand has bombed Cambodia, even after US President Donald Trump claimed that the two neighbouring nations had agreed to a ceasefire. The Cambodian defence ministry posted on X on Saturday, 13th December, 2025, that the Thai military flew two F-16 fighter jets and dropped seven bombs on several spots. “Thai military aircraft have not stopped bombing yet,” they added.

This came right after Trump’s post on Truth Social on Friday, 12th December. He said he had a good talk that morning with Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Manet about their long-running border war waking up again.

Trump claimed both sides agreed to halt all fighting right away and go back to the July peace deal he helped broker with Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. “Both countries are ready for peace and continued trade with the United States,” he wrote, acting like a big peacemaker who has solved eight wars and deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.
The fighting along their 817-km (508-mile) disputed border, rooted in old colonial lines, started heating up again on Monday, 8th December with rockets and artillery fire. It’s the worst since a five-day clash in July that Trump stepped in to stop. At least 20 people have died, and over 260 have injured, with hundreds of thousands of people displaced on both sides. Each country blames the other for starting it.
Earlier, Anutin told reporters the call with Trump went well, but didn’t confirm any deal. He said Thailand isn’t the aggressor; they’re just hitting back and want Trump to make Cambodia stop first, pull back troops, and clear landmines. “Don’t just say ceasefire; tell the world Cambodia will cease fire, withdraw troops, and remove all landmines they planted.
They must show us first,” Anutin said. He also noted no signs that Trump would tie trade talks to the fight, but promised Thailand better deals.us
Hun Manet posted on Facebook that Cambodia sticks to peaceful ways to solve disputes. He suggested the US and Malaysia use their info-gathering skills to check who fired first on 7th December. Back in October, Trump backed a joint declaration with new trade deals after they extended the truce, but Thailand paused it last month when soldiers got hurt by border landmines.
The US, China, and Malaysia, as ASEAN chair, helped set up the first ceasefire in July after that initial violence. Meanwhile, Anutin dissolved Thailand’s parliament on Friday, just three months after its formation, setting up early elections for next year.
