In the Bhagwatipara area of Gujarat’s Rajkot, a Muslim mob deliberately tried to disrupt the Holika Dahan festival on 2nd March. When confronted, the Muslim mob rushed in with weapons in hand and started a brawl with Hindus who had gathered for Holika Dahan. It was only after the police arrived that the situation could be brought under control.
While the pradakshina (circumambulation) and puja were going on, two local Muslim men arrived there on a bike and started doing stunts. Due to which the women and children present were scared. Consequently, the Hindu men scolded the Muslim duo for their inappropriate action. Both the Muslim men fled the spot; however, they returned with a mob carrying weapons, including pipes in their hands and started fighting with the Hindus involved in the Holika Dahan. They also abused the women.
Finally, the matter was reported to the B Division Police, and the team immediately reached the spot. It is learnt that some members of the Muslim mob also misbehave and hurled abuses at the police officials. After this, the police brought the situation under control by calling additional personnel.
The police also rounded up some people to maintain law and order and ensure that the Holi festival was completed peacefully. However, it is not known whether the police have filed any FIR in this matter.
