Delhi: Shahid Anwar poses as ‘Tony’ to marry a Hindu woman, arrested for forced conversion in Sahibganj

A case of love jihad and forced religious conversion has come to light from the Rajmahal police station area of Sahibganj district in Jharkhand. Based on the statement of the Hindu woman, the police have filed a case and arrested the accused Shahid Anwar.

According to the police, Shahid had been in a relationship with the Hindu woman for a period of time. The woman stated that he introduced himself as “Tony” and claimed to be a Hindu. She said he later took her to Delhi, where they got married at an Arya Samaj temple following Hindu rituals.

The woman told police that after some time, the accused revealed his real identity as a Muslim and began pressuring her to convert to Islam. She said she was taken to a Maulvi, asked to wear a burqa and even forced to offer namaz. She also said she faced mental harassment when she refused to follow these practices.

She further stated that somehow she managed to return home on 16th March. The next day, the accused came to her house, misbehaved with her mother, and tried to forcibly take her away. When she resisted, he threatened to kill her.

Police said they are now examining all aspects of the case, and further action will be taken based on evidence.
