On 20th April (Monday), the Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh announced that the farmers in the states are going to be able to sell wheat without having to register online. According to an official statement, they can utilise government procurement centres for the same. The move is aimed at alleviating the challenges that farmers encountered throughout the procurement procedure.
The “Farmer Registry,” a digital system designed to identify farmers and validate their products, will no longer be required for the process. All District Magistrates have been instructed by CM Yogi to carry out the directive immediately. The Farmer Registry was made mandatory earlier this year, requiring farmers to sell wheat at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) at government procurement facilities in Uttar Pradesh.
Many farmers had to market their produce to intermediaries at reduced prices because they were unable to fulfil the registration process. CM Yogi acted right away after realising the predicament of the farmers. According to the notification, farmers will be able to sell their wheat at government procurement centres without a registry under the new policy as they did in prior years.
CM Yogi expressed, “Farmers will be able to sell their wheat as before.” He ordered the officials to make sure that farmers at procurement centres are not inconvenienced. He also told officials to set up drinking water, fans, shade and other necessities for farmers in light of the current heatwave.
The Food and Civil Supplies Department conveyed that more than 42,000 farmers have provided more than 2.38 lakh metric tonnes of wheat by 11:00 am on Monday. Likewise, above 5,400 procurement centres have been established around the state and over 4.77 lakh farmers have enrolled thus far.
