The United Nations will posthumously honour two Indian peacekeepers, Havildar Harbhajan Singh and Naib Subedar Sujit Kumar Pradhan, on the National Day of UN peacekeepers on Friday (29th May) for making the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
Lance Havildar Harbhajan Singh served with the United Nations Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Naib Subedar Sujit Kumar Pradhan was posted at the UN Mission in South Sudan. The two martyrs will be posthumously honoured by the US Secretary General Antonio Guterres with the Dag Hammarskjold Medal.
Secretary Guterras will also give the 2025 Military Gender Advocate of the Year award to India’s Major Abhilasha Barak for her extraordinary contribution to women’s empowerment and gender sensitisation during her posting with the UN Interim Force in Lebanon.
