The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced on Monday (1st June) that 30 Indian truck drivers illegally residing in the US will be deported. The identified illegals have been arrested.
In a statement, the CBP said that Border Patrol agents from the Yuma Sector in Arizona are undertaking Operation Checkmate and have arrested 52 people so far. The arrested individuals, including 36 truck drivers, have been accused of residing in the US illegally. Of the 36 truck drivers, 30 are Indians, and the remaining six are from Mexico, El Salvador, and Russia.
The arrested Indians carried work permits issued during the Biden administration. However, the truck drivers continued to stay in the US even after the permit expired.
Notably, many Indian and other nationals adopt the illegal Dunki route to enter the United States. The dunki route is basically a human smuggling network that ferries desperate migrants through countries like Dubai, Nicaragua, and Mexico before slipping them across the porous southern border into the US. Many of these pick up menial work, even fake persecution in their home country, to seek asylum.
While the Trump administration 1.0 was very strict about asylum approvals, the Biden administration was liberal, aiding many fake asylum seekers, especially Khalistanis, to stay in the US. However, with Donald Trump’s return to White House, illegal immigrants are being detected, detained and deported on a large scale.
