Signs of internal discord have emerged days after DK Shivakumar replaced Siddaramaiah as the Chief Minister of Karnataka. Karnataka minister Ramalinga Reddy resigned from the cabinet on 5th June. Reddy held a press conference on Friday and announced his resignation.
The senior Congress leader decided to step down after being denied the Bengaluru Development portfolio.
“I thank you and the Congress Party for giving me a ministerial position in your Cabinet. I am resigning as a minister because I cannot act against my conscience.I request that my resignation be accepted. I will continue as an MLA and a Congress party worker,” Reddy wrote in a letter to CM DK Shivakumar.
Reports say that Ramalinga Reddy was given the Major and Medium Irrigation department, while he was expecting the Bengaluru Development Department, as this department is considered the most important politically. As the Bengaluru Development Department went to Krishna Byre Gowda, Ramalinga Reddy expressed his dissatisfaction by resigning from the cabinet.
