Jan Suraaj Party digital team member and aide of Prashant Kishor, Devpalik Gupta, found dead after he went missing from a train in Ranchi

A 31-year-old man, Devpalik Gupta, who was part of the digital communications team of Prashant Kishor‘s Jan Suraaj Party (JSP), was found dead on Tuesday (October 26, 2026). Devpalik Gupta was travelling with two of his colleagues on the Ranchi-Patna Janshatabdi Express when he mysteriously went missing on Monday afternoon. Police lodged an FIR about his disappearance around 9 pm the same day.

Gupta’s body was found near the railway tracks on the Ranchi-Muri line, in Jarwadih village, which falls under the Angara police station. According to station officer-in-charge Gautam Kumar Rajwar, preliminary investigation into Devpalik Gupta’s death suggests he fell off the moving train accidentally and died. Gupta’s body has been sent to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in Ranchi for postmortem.

Devpalik’s colleague, Gautam Kumar, who was travelling with him, said that the train Gupta was travelling on left for Patna at 2.25 pm on Monday. A few minutes later, Gupta went towards the pantry car to get food. That was the last time Gautam Kumar and another colleague named Nishant saw him. When he did not return after some time, his colleagues grew suspicious.

Gupta’s colleagues got down at the next station, Muri Junction, which was the first stop of the train since it departed from Ranchi, and lodged a complaint with the railway police (GRP). Following the complaint, the police began the search for Gupta. His body was found about 24 hours later in Jarwadih, between Ranchi and Muri, on Tuesday afternoon. The investigators are trying to establish the events that led to Devpalik Gupta’s death. The police are examining what happened after Gupta left his berth.

A post was made from JSP’s official account on X, condoling the death of Devpalik Gupta. “We are all stunned by the sudden demise of Devpalika Gupta, a colleague from the Jan Suraj social media team, in the train accident.
