A 19-year-old college student from Kerala’s Kasaragod district died by suicide after her marriage was fixed with a madrasa teacher. The girl died while undergoing treatment in hospital after allegedly consuming rat poison. The deceased has been identified as Mubassira, daughter of U Abdul Rahman and U M Fathima, residents of Kaithakkad-Payyanki Bismilla Road.
The incident took place in Cheruvathur. Mubassira, a native of Payyanki and daughter of U Abdul Rahman and U M Fathima, was a student of Alvarda Women’s College. Recently, her parents fixed her marriage to a madrasa teacher, and an engagement ceremony was held.
According to Chandera police, Mubassira was admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru, Kerala, on 2nd June after consuming poison. She had been receiving treatment in the intensive care unit for several days before she passed away at around 5.30 pm on Wednesday, 10th June.
Police said preliminary investigations suggest that she may have taken the extreme step due to mental distress related to her engagement to a madrasa teacher.

Following her death, Chandera police registered a case of unnatural death and launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the incident. Officials said further inquiries are underway, and statements from family members and others connected to the case are being recorded as part of the investigation.
Police are expected to examine all aspects of the case before reaching any final conclusion regarding the reason behind the student’s death.
