The shop was under illegal occupation for 25 years
According to media reports, the elderly couple complained to District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar about the years-long occupation of their shop. Following the complaint, the administration investigated the matter and examined relevant documents. Upon finding the complaint to be true, a screening committee recommended action.
Subsequently, on Tuesday, 16th June, District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar arrived in Gandhinagar with police and administrative officials. In the presence of the administration, the shop was freed from occupation, and its possession was handed over to the original owners. The shop was also inaugurated by breaking a coconut.
The elderly couple says that Mohammad Imamuddin Malik had occupied the shop for 25-30 years. They said that they were repeatedly threatened when they demanded that the shop be vacated. Despite years of efforts, they failed to secure justice and had given up hope.
The elderly couple became emotional after getting their shop back. They compared the District Magistrate to Lord Hanuman, saying they had no faith they would ever get their shop back. They also expressed their gratitude to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the district administration.
District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar stated that the campaign against land mafias and illegal encroachments is ongoing. He appealed to the public to contact the administration if anyone’s land or property is under illegal occupation, and action will be taken after a proper investigation.
