Yogi govt approves DPR preparation for Muzaffarnagar-Haridwar Namo Bharat Rapid Rail Transit System to boost connectivity and tourism in western UP

The Yogi government has taken a significant step toward improving transport infrastructure in western Uttar Pradesh by granting in-principle approval for the preparation of the AAR-DPR of the proposed Muzaffarnagar-Haridwar Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor. The Namo Bharat project is expected to strengthen connectivity across the region and support faster movement of people.

Once completed, the rapid rail corridor will make travel between Muzaffarnagar, Roorkee and Haridwar quicker, safer and more convenient. According to Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Vocational Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Kapil Dev Agarwal, the project will do more than improve transportation.

He said it is expected to create fresh opportunities in trade, industry, education, healthcare, religious tourism and employment, helping the region emerge as a major centre of economic activity.

Kapil Dev Agarwal met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at his residence on Tuesday, 23rd June and expressed gratitude for the approval. He described the proposed corridor as an important project that will support the long-term development of western Uttar Pradesh and benefit people across several districts.

The proposed 150-km extension will start from Modipuram station in Meerut and pass through Muzaffarnagar before entering Uttarakhand near Roorkee. The route will then continue through Haridwar and finally end in Rishikesh. 72 km of he route will be in Uttar Pradesh and 78 km will be in Uttarakhand.

The new corridor is also expected to make journeys to Haridwar more comfortable for pilgrims and tourists. Better and faster connectivity to one of the country’s most visited pilgrimage destinations is likely to reduce travel time and improve the overall travel experience for visitors.

The state government has been expanding semi-high-speed transport infrastructure to improve connectivity and support economic growth. Such projects are aimed at making travel easier for ordinary citizens while helping different regions attract investment and development.

The proposed Muzaffarnagar-Haridwar RRTS corridor will add to the state’s growing rapid transit network. At present, the Rapid Rail service is operational between New Delhi and Meerut. The corridor was inaugurated earlier this year by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and has become an important transport link for commuters in the region.
