On 23rd June, several villages in Arunachal Pradesh’s Lower Subansiri and Keyi Panyor districts were hit by flash floods after a spell of intense rainfall. According to the Meteorological Centre in Itanagar, Yazali received 72.8 mm of rain in the 24 hours ending Tuesday morning. Most of it fell between 6 am and 9 am, causing rivers to overflow and water to spread quickly across nearby areas.

Villages face major damage
Floodwaters entered Luksin, Yiyee-I and Yiyee-II villages under Toru Circle soon after 6:30 am. The house of Dukhum Adi in Luksin was damaged along with several other buildings. Pineapple, banana and orange plantations also suffered losses. Yiyee village was among the worst affected, where many homes were flooded. Residents were moved to nearby houses, and no casualties have been reported. Officials are still preparing a detailed damage report.
The flooding also affected the NEEPCO Colony in Posa, Yazali, where 15 residential quarters were destroyed. A major highway bridge was washed away, cutting off road connectivity. Weather officials said the flooding was caused by cloudburst-like rainfall over a short period, not by continuous rain.
The IMD has warned that ongoing monsoon activity, swollen rivers and wet soil could increase the risk of more floods and landslides. Authorities have asked district officials to stay prepared while disaster teams continue to monitor river levels.
According to reports, one person lost his life, while 4 others remain missing
