Vision Mahasagar: PM Modi hands over ‘Made in India’ Fast Patrol Vessel, ambulances, utility vehicles and laser radial boats to Seychelles during his state visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his ongoing State Visit to Seychelles from June 27 to 29, 2026, today handed over a state-of-the-art ‘Made in India’ Fast Patrol Vessel along with several other key assets to President Dr Patrick Herminie in a special gesture that highlights the close and growing strategic ties between the two countries.

The 52-metre Fast Patrol Vessel PS Lespwar, designed and built by Goa Shipyard Limited, was presented to the Seychelles Coast Guard to significantly boost its maritime surveillance and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) patrolling capabilities. In addition, six Force ambulances, ten utility vehicles and five laser radial boats were also gifted.

These assets will support emergency healthcare services, logistical requirements and coastal security operations across the island nation. The patrol vessel is understood to be valued at around ₹100 crore and forms part of India’s ongoing support to enhance Seychelles’ maritime security infrastructure.

Barry Faure, Seychelles’ Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, expressed gratitude to the Government and people of India for their continued support and the gifts handed over today.

The handover took place during PM Modi’s visit, which is being undertaken at the invitation of President Herminie. The Prime Minister is participating as the Guest of Honour in the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Seychelles National Day, marking 50 years of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles that were established in 1976. This is PM Modi’s second visit to Seychelles, his previous trip having taken place in 2015.

A contingent of Indian armed forces personnel and two Indian Navy ships are participating in the National Day celebrations. During the visit, PM Modi is also expected to address the National Assembly of Seychelles, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to do so. Bilateral discussions are focused on reviewing the full spectrum of cooperation in areas such as maritime security, defence, development and people-to-people ties, while also exchanging views on regional and international issues.

The gifts and the visit reflect India’s commitment under its Vision MAHASAGAR to promote mutual security, sustainable development and holistic growth across the Indian Ocean Region. Seychelles is regarded as a key maritime neighbour and a trusted partner in India’s broader engagement with the Global South. The strengthening of defence and development cooperation is expected to contribute to greater stability and prosperity in the region.
