Rajasthan horror: Class 8 student gang-raped by nearly a dozen people in Sri Ganganagar; 10 arrested thus far as probe widens

A shocking case from Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar has come to light, where a 13-year-old schoolgirl, a Class 8 student, was raped by nearly two dozen people over four days, leading to arrests and a widening police probe. The case came into focus after the girl was recovered on 22nd June, and since then, more and more details have been coming out.

According to the media reports, the minor, who lives in a village near Sri Ganganagar, had gone to Srivijaynagar on 18th June to meet a friend. RPS Kailashdan Detha, who heads the Women’s Harassment Cases Cell and is leading the investigation, said the girl reached Sri Ganganagar around 10:30 pm and asked an e-rickshaw driver named Rambabu to take her home. Police say that instead of dropping her off at home, he took her to the Hotel Joy Inn.

Hotels under scanner

Investigators believe the girl was then shifted between different hotels, where she was repeatedly sexually assaulted over the next few days. Police are also checking claims that alcohol was given to her during this time. A youth is also suspected of moving her from one hotel to another. What began with three hotels under suspicion has now grown to four, after investigators found another property called “Dream” near Birbal Chowk.

All four hotels are now being closely examined. Police have taken DVR systems from each of them, and a team of experts has been set up under the supervision of District Superintendent of Police Harishankar Yadav to go through the footage. Officials believe that once the video is checked, more names may come out. They are also looking into hotel records, rental papers and other documents to see whether the management knew what was happening.

Arrests and police action

So far, 10 people have been arrested in the case. Among them are hotel owner Mayank Sain, manager Hardeep Nath and Sachin, who are currently on police remand. E-rickshaw drivers Ram Babu, Mukesh Nath and Lalband Singla have been sent to judicial custody. On Saturday, 27th June, police arrested two more young men, Deepak from Kishanpura Dikhnada in Hanumangarh and Tarun from Sri Ganganagar.

Police said five of the arrested accused are believed to have directly taken part in the exploitation. One hotel linked to the case has already been sealed. Officials said action will also be taken against any other hotel owners or staff if their role is proven during the investigation. They added that clues found in the accused’s mobile phones are helping officers identify more people involved.

On Saturday, the District Congress Committee held a protest outside the Ganganagar Traders Association building. Party workers shouted slogans against the police administration and hotel operators, saying the matter showed a serious failure in protection and monitoring.
