Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Jalandhar, Punjab, on Friday (17th July), where he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for rail and road infrastructure projects worth over ₹5,470 crore. The projects included 75 redeveloped railway stations in 20 States under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. He reached Jalandhar after unveiling projects in Chandigarh and Jind (Haryana), where he flagged off India’s first hydrogen-powered train.

The Prime Minister also flagged off the Amritsar (Chheharta)-Varanasi Sant Ravidas Express, which provides a direct rail link between two revered spiritual and cultural centres. Addressing a public rally shortly after, PM Modi paid tribute to Sardar Teja Singh Samundri on the 100th anniversary of his martyrdom.

He described him as a great son of Punjab and highlighted how he led many movements to protect Sikh interests during British rule. PM Modi hailed Teja Singh for dedicating his life to serving the nation and expressed hope that people would draw inspiration from the programmes marking his martyrdom centenary.
Centre committed to the development of the AAP-ruled Punjab
Emphasising the centre’s commitment to development and the service of people, PM Modi said that the mantra of “Nagarik Devo Bhava” (the citizen is divine) guides his government. He said that the government’s focus is on serving every Indian, making people’s lives easier and creating opportunities for progress. The Prime Minister asserted that the government has been working to ensure that every poor and middle-class family receives the best possible facilities.
He listed several connectivity and infrastructure projects being executed by the centre in Punjab and reiterated the government’s commitment to the state’s development despite a non-BJP government ruling the state. He praised the people of Jalandhar for their “Swachhata Se Swagat” initiative, saying it reflected the values of social harmony, collective effort and sense of duty inspired by Guru Ravidas Ji.
PM Modi expressed concern over deteriorating law and order in Punjab
Prime Minister Modi expressed concern over the weak law and order situation in the land of ‘Sher-e-Punjab’, Maharaja Ranjit Singh. He said that the state is suffering from gang wars and drug menace, and that it has become difficult to conduct business in the state.

“Law and order in Punjab is in shambles today. No one can predict when or where a gang war might break out or from which direction bullets might start flying. Conducting business here has become difficult; people are being openly extorted. Even police stations are not safe; they are frequently attacked. Most tragic of all, the future of Punjab is being ruined. Drug peddlers are roaming freely, dragging the youth of Punjab into the quagmire of addiction,” PM Modi said.
PM Modi slams the AAP over Tahir Hussain’s conviction
PM Modi referred to the conviction of former AAP councillor Tahir Hussain by a Delhi court and said that the real face of the party has been exposed. He slammed the party for questioning the court’s verdict based on the religion of the convict to appease their vote bank.

PM Modi met Sant Niranjan Dass of Dera Sachkhand Ballan
During his visit to Jalandhar, PM Modi met Sant Niranjan Dass, the spiritual head of Dera Sachkhand Ballan. He praised the spiritual leader’s contribution to spiritual awareness and social welfare. The Dera has been leading the Ravidassia community of Punjab since 1994. It has established educational institutions, community infrastructure and charitable healthcare facilities, along with religious centres.

PM Modi boosted the morale of sportspersons in the state
Prime Minister Modi also boosted the morale of the sportspersons in the state and said that his government has been developing a sports ecosystem in the city. “I have full confidence in the sports capabilities of the youth of Punjab. They have been making the state proud at the national and international levels in various sports disciplines,” PM Modi said.
“Khelo India and sports policy are for you. It is giving you a huge opportunity to develop the sports economy and sports ecosystem in Jalandhar. There are so many areas that can be explored, including coaching, sports science, centres of excellence and sports medicine. Go on. The Government of India is with you,” he added.
