A video recently went viral on social media, showing Commonwealth Games silver medalist Lovlina Borgohain pointing out a distorted map of India on the napkin provided in a restaurant in Glasgow, Scotland. In the video, Lovlina can be seen politely objecting to the inaccurate map of India printed on the napkins in the restaurant ‘Mister Singh’s India – The Home of Curry’.
Lovlina had visited the restaurant to participate in a dinner hosted by the restaurant to celebrate the Indian contingent’s remarkable performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026. During the dinner, Lovlina noticed that the Indian map printed on the napkins provided in the restaurant misrepresented the Indian territory. The map did not show the Northeastern region, where the boxer herself comes from, as part of India’s geography. The map also excludes the parts of Jammu and Kashmir illegally occupied by Pakistan and China.
The omission of the Northeastern states from the Indian map deeply hurt the boxer from Assam, who recently made India proud by winning a silver medal at the Games. She pointed out the distortion and urged the owners of the restaurant to correct the map by including the Northeastern states in it.
“Please don’t take this the wrong way. I felt a little hurt by this. In the map of India, our North East is missing. Yes, even outside, the map that’s displayed has cut off the North East. As someone from the North East, that really hurts us. That’s all I wanted to say. Please keep this in mind next time. Thank you so much,” Lovlina said to the restaurant’s management.

While celebrating India's Commonwealth Games success at a restaurant, Indian athletes noticed an INCOMPLETE map of India on the napkins.

Boxing Federation of India (BFI) president Ajay Singh, who was present there with Lovlina, agreed with her and pointed out another distortion in the map. Singh highlighted that Jammu and Kashmir was also not correctly depicted on the map. He urged the restaurant management to withdraw the inaccurate map and replace it with a correct representation of India’s territory.

The restaurant, owned by Sardar Jit Singh, also known as Papa Singh, is a popular Indian dining destination in Glasgow, and it frequently hosts touring sports teams and dignitaries.
After Lovlina’s video went viral, people thought that the distorted Indian map on the napkins was a mistake. However, it turns out that the distortion is not the result of an error but a deliberate act. The napkins carry the picture of the restaurant’s well-thought-out logo, which shows an inaccurate map of India. The map in the logo does not show Jammu and Kashmir and the Northeastern region as parts of the Indian territory.
A visit to the restaurant’s social media pages and its website shows that the same logo with the prominent wrong map of India is used everywhere. The restaurant’s logo is also displayed on all its signage and promotional materials.
According to Lovlina, the restaurant’s management later apologised for the wrong map, claiming that it is a British map. She told media, “It was an Indian restaurant where we were having food and few people told me that the napkin and logo of the restaurant is having a India map printed in which north east map is missing and Kashmir’s part is also not correct. I felt real bad about it, raised my voice against this issue to the owners. They said it’s a British map that’s why northeast is missing and apologised for the same. Having said that, they will change the map.”
The restaurant also deleted its Instagram after facing outrage over the issue. Before deleting the account, Mister Singh’s India issued a statement apologising for the wrong map. They assured that they will take steps to correct the logo.
“We will take immediate steps to correct this. Once again our sincere apologies, we never wanted to offend anyone rather wanted to serve with pride to Indian contingent. We will change the logo with proper map,” they stated in the statement.
The Indian boxing team produced its best-ever Commonwealth Games campaign in Glasgow, winning 10 medals, including seven golds and three silvers. The contingent visited the restaurant on Saturday to celebrate the landmark achievement, when Lovlina spotted the wrong map.
