SC advocate Sanjay Hegde shares fake screenshot of Donald Trump, peddles lies about use of Indian EVMs for US election: Here is the truth

On Thursday (20th August), Supreme Court advocate Sanjay Hegde took to X (formerly Twitter) to peddle fake news about Indian EVMs being used in US election.

Hedge, who earlier made derogatory remarks about the sacred Kumbh Mela, shared a fake screenshot attributed to US President Donald Trump.

It read, “Just finished an INCREDIBLE call with India’s Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, a TRUE PROFESSIONAL!
We are in SERIOUS TALKS about bringing India’s world class EVM system to America for the 2028 Election. These machines are UNBEATABLE, FAST, and 100% SECURE. No more mail in ballots, no more chaos, no more RIGGED elections!

India just ran an election with 646 MILLION voters, every single one with Photo ID, and it was FAIR, CLEAN, and BEAUTIFUL. America deserves the SAME! Gyanesh Kumar and I are working together to MAKE AMERICAN ELECTIONS GREAT AGAIN. The radical left is already trembling. 2028 will be the most TRANSPARENT, most HONEST election in U.S. history. GUARANTEED! Thank you Gyanesh. America is watching,” the fake screenshot further added.

Using it, Sanjay Hedge made a snide remark, “If this deal goes through, the source code will be available and audited.” His comment was aimed at fuelling conspiracy theories surrounding the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) during Indian elections. Opposition parties including the Congress has so far left no stone unturned to selectively cast aspersions on the source code of the EVMs.

What did Donald Trump actually say about Gyanesh Kumar

OpIndia looked up the profile of Donald Trump on ‘Truth Social’ and found no such post by the US President on Tuesday (18th August). We however found a post referencing Indian Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.

Earlier this month, India’s Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, asked our Administration: How can you have Elections in the US without a valid Photo ID? India’s last Election had 646,000,000 Voters!” the actual post said.

Trump further added, “Less than 1 per cent voted by mail, and every single Voter had to have a VALID Photo Identity Document. We need to pass THE SAVE AMERICA ACT, now!

Trump’s post on Truth Social showed how Indian elections carry sanctity and have robust identification methods to ensure only valid voters cast their vote, which stands in direct contrast to the insinuations made by Sanjay Hegde.
