Journalist Pragya Mishra’s sister shot dead by her husband, who later killed his sister and himself in Lucknow: Here is what happened

A disturbing incident came to light in the Gomtinagar Police Station area, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday (20th August), in which YouTuber and journalist Pragya Mishra’s sister, Divya Mishra, was shot dead by her husband, Manas Bajpai. After killing his wife, Manas shot dead his sister and then committed suicide.

Pragya Mishra posted a message about the incident on social media at 1:26 pm, informing that her sister, Divya Mishra, had been shot and was admitted to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences.

However, Divya Mishra succumbed to her injuries and passed away. A team of police and the forensic department arrived at the scene and began the investigation. Later, in the evening, Pragya Mishra confirmed her sister’s death through a post on X.

Divya Mishra shot dead outside her workplace in Gomti Nagar

As per reports, Divya Mishra worked as a Relationship Manager at ICICI Bank in Gomti Nagar while her husband, Manas Bajpai, was employed at an SBI branch. They had been living separately due to family discord, and Divya had filed for divorce about a year ago. On the day of the incident, Divya Mishra reached her workplace as usual. At noon, Manas Bajpai arrived at her workplace and called her outside to meet him. When Divya came to meet him, he shot her and fled the scene. Divya fell unconscious and was taken to the hospital, where she was declared dead.

Pragya Mishra shared CCTV footage of the ICICI Bank branch and Divya Mishra’s home on X. In the footage from Divya Mishra’s home, she is seen leaving for work. The CCTV footage from outside the ICICI Bank branch in Gomtinagar shows Manas Bajpai physically assaulting Divya Mishra moments before he shot her.

In her X post, Pragya said that the postmortem of her sister could not be conducted at the given time. She added that her mother is not aware of her daughter’s death as she could not muster the courage to break the unfortunate news to her.

“Divya’s post-mortem couldn’t be done today; the appointment is set for 9–10 AM tomorrow… I still haven’t been able to muster the courage to tell Mom… I’ve made her lie down next to me by telling her the lie that Divya is in critical condition… For the first time, I realise just how hard it is to speak the truth… She is in the freezer at the post-mortem house… I couldn’t bring myself to say that…” Pragya Mishra wrote.

In the post, Pragya Mishra said that the relationship between Manas and her sister had been strained for a long time. She added that Manas Bajpai used to subject her sister to cruelty, which led to her separating from him. Pragya further said that her sister told her that Manas and his sister beat up their ill mother in such a brutal manner that she passed away later.

After killing his wife in broad daylight, Manas Bajpai purportedly posted a status on WhatsApp, admitting to killing her. In the WhatsApp status, he claimed that he killed his wife because she cheated on him and added that he would now kill his sister and himself. He added that Pragya Mishra and her husband, Bharat, knew everything. Subsequently, he reportedly went back to his house, where he shot his sister dead and then killed himself. His sister is said to have been mentally unwell for the past three years.

The police said that Divya Mishra and Manas Bajpai had been living separately since November 2025 due to mutual differences. During the investigation, police found certain documents from Divya’s house, including papers relating to an ongoing divorce proceeding. An investigation is underway in the case.
