Congress AICC secretary Gaurav Pandhi has sparked controversy after he appeared to sexualise an interaction between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a child during Raksha Bandhan celebrations. Sharing a post on X on Monday (31st August), the Congress leader wrote, “So, has an older uncle ever held your hand so tightly that it made you uncomfortable? You tried to pull away, but he wouldn’t let go and instead squeezed it even harder?”

However, the full video tells a completely different story, revealing that Pandhi only posted a cropped clip of the video to push his false claims.

The video further shows that the child herself initiated the handshake with PM Modi. The brief clip shared by Pandhi, therefore, does not show the complete sequence and gives a misleading impression about what actually happened.

By presenting the cropped portion as evidence of alleged inappropriate behaviour, Pandhi has attempted to build a perverted narrative that is not supported by the full footage.

PM Modi celebrates Raksha Bandhan with schoolgirls

The interaction took place during PM Modi’s Raksha Bandhan celebrations at his official residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg in New Delhi. As part of the annual tradition, schoolgirls visited the Prime Minister and tied rakhis on his wrist.

PM Modi also shared glimpses of the celebration and his interaction with the children. Referring to the event, he wrote, “High-fives, smiles and more during today’s Raksha Bandhan celebrations at 7, LKM.”

The full video of the interaction has since provided the broader context that was missing from Pandhi’s edited clip, raising questions over the Congress leader’s attempt to portray a normal Raksha Bandhan interaction in a completely different manner.
