A retired Indian Air Force Group Captain and 1999 Kargil War veteran was seriously injured after a parking attendant attacked him with an iron rod at Magnum Global Park in Gurugram on Thursday night.
Group Captain Amit Kumar Gupta (retired), who took part in the Indian Air Force’s Operation Safed Sagar during the Kargil conflict, was at the business complex for a family dinner at Gonzo restaurant. The incident happened at around 8 pm after he dropped his family at the restaurant and went to park his car.

Parking dispute turns violent
According to Gupta’s complaint, parking staff first directed him between the valet area, basement and multi-level parking. He said that after being sent from one place to another, the staff eventually refused to park his vehicle.
The situation became tense when Gupta tried to reverse his car and leave. He said a parking attendant struck the vehicle with an iron rod and tried to break the front windshield.
Gupta then stepped out of the car to question the attendant. He said the parking worker hit him twice with the rod, striking his arm and head. The blow to his head caused heavy bleeding, while the attack on his arm left his elbow fractured.
“The attack was sudden and unprovoked. I couldn’t even defend myself,” Gupta said. He also said the parking attendant threatened to kill him during the incident.
Staff did not step in, veteran says
Gupta said security guards and other parking workers were present but did not come forward to stop the attack or help him.
He also said he called the police helpline after the assault but had to wait for about 30 minutes without getting assistance. According to his account, a chef from the premises eventually stepped in and helped prevent the situation from becoming more serious.
Gupta was later taken by ambulance to a private hospital in serious condition. He received treatment for his injuries and underwent surgery for the fractured elbow. Plates were inserted to repair the broken bone.
Complaint raises questions over police, MLC report
Apart from seeking action against the parking attendant, Gupta has also raised concerns about the police response and his medico-legal case (MLC) report.
He said the hospital treated his injuries but claimed that the MLC did not properly record the bleeding from his head and the serious injury to his elbow. Gupta has complained to the hospital over the report and questioned whether the police and hospital handled his case properly.
“I am not getting any support from the police,” he said.
In his complaint, Gupta has asked the police to take strict action against the accused and register an FIR under strong sections, including those relating to attempted murder and causing grievous hurt.

Gurugram police have registered an FIR in connection with the incident under sections relating to obstruction and assault. Police said more charges may be added after examining Gupta’s X-ray and other medical reports.
The case comes after a dispute over parking at Magnum Global Park turned into a physical attack, leaving the retired Air Force officer with serious injuries.

Operation Safed Sagar was the Indian Air Force’s air operation during the 1999 Kargil War. It involved high-altitude air operations aimed at helping Indian forces push back Pakistani infiltrators from positions in the Kargil sector.
Gupta, a veteran of the operation, is now seeking strict action against those involved in the incident.
