Biker Sia, who recently survived a hit-and-run in Gurugram on 13th September (Sunday), has released her first statement regarding the incident since the footage of a car crashing into her two-wheeler and flinging her off it gained significant attention on social media. She referred to the interview given by the accused, Kalyan Bainsla, in his defence and retaliated, “The entire video demonstrates who was pursuing whom. Even if he believed that the bikers were frequently altering their speed, it did not grant him the right to chase me down the road.”
She also dismissed his assertion of being unaware that the biker was a woman. “This is absolutely untrue. He noticed my long plaited hair from behind. He saw that, chased me, asked me to stop the car, and now he declares that there were 22-23 people involved, questioning why only two videos are being presented. Are these two videos insufficient,” she asked in her Instagram video.
Sia highlighted, “It is quite evident in one of the clips that you directly entered the third lane from the first lane and struck me, then fled the scene. The other front video recorded from my camera shows you changing lanes and colliding with my bike. I have been dragged and thrown off the road by you. Are two videos not enough proof,” she reiterated.
Sia further charged, “It was your duty to stop and check if I was injured after you struck me. A mere delay of two to three seconds could have led to far more serious injuries, including multiple fractures. I could have died instantly. Such a sympathy-seeking character does not suit you at all.”
“All the videos clearly depict how you escaped and did not even pause for a moment to see if the person you hit was alive or dead. I feel ashamed for those who claim their families are being affected by this. I do not believe these individuals even consider that they have sisters and women at home. Many women feel very unsafe on the roads of Gurugram and Delhi. I hope we can educate them on how to drive properly on the road,” she remarked while thanking people for their support.
Bainsla defends himself
Sia’s reaction transpired after Bainsla, who is a gym owner, claimed to feel bad for her and argued that he did not intentionally hit her bike. He asserted, “I did not hit them intentionally.” He also insisted, “I felt very sorry for that girl.” According to him, Sia was among the more than 20 bikers who were driving aggressively, then slowing down in front of his vehicle after overtaking it and frequently changing their speed.
Bainsla added that he was pinched by them and alleged that he was not aware that a woman was riding the bike. He contended that he attempted to avoid the accident, but Sia abruptly turned while he was making a U-turn, giving him little time to respond. He also denied running away afterwards and stressed that the footage that was making the rounds on social media had been altered by combining several clips.
Bainsla expressed, “I was travelling with my family. I didn’t make any gestures at the young woman; I simply asked her to ride her bike slowly. I admit that a collision occurred. Had I stopped right then, those people would have beaten us up.”
He then insisted, “About 20 to 22 motorcyclists sped past me. I didn’t realise a young woman was riding one of the bikes; I had simply asked her and the young man accompanying her to slow down. I did not hit them intentionally. She was turning without checking her mirrors; just then, near a U-turn, I lost control of the car, and the collision occurred. It was my fault; I admit it.”
Bainsla further alleged, “My family was with me, so I feared they might beat us up if we stopped. I even stopped the car at a red light to speak to them and explained that it wasn’t my fault. After that, my brother refused to stop there. There isn’t a single case against me from the past. Now, I am being harassed,” adding, “There isn’t a single case against me from the past.”
Manish, the car’s owner, had previously stated that Baisla had rented the car two days prior to the occurrence and reported that he first found out about the collision on the morning of 14th September (Monday). He also mentioned he was at work when Baisla took the four-wheeler.
Complaint against Bainsla and police action
Sia stated that she was riding her Aprilia RS 457 sports bike with some other riders when a white vehicle started to follow them. She pointed out that its occupants were hostile, appeared intoxicated, and continuously attempted to approach her motorbike before the incident. She has also filed a complaint against Bainsla and outlined that she was harassed and hit by a car on Sunday. The instance unfolded when she was riding with her friends to Biker’s Barn Cafe around 7 in the morning on Sunday.
The complaint conveyed that Sia came upon a white Maruti Suzuki Ciaz on Golf Course Road with the license plate HR30L4949. Those sitting inside it continually attempted to harass her and stop her motorbike as they seemed to be inebriated. “When I crossed them, they suddenly crossed my path and hit my bike,” she highlighted.
Sia mentioned that her bike was dragged for around 300 meters due to the impact, while the occupants left the area as soon as the crash took place. She added, “My friends tried to chase them, but they ran away from the spot,” in her complaint. She has demanded immediate action against the perpetrator.
According to Gurugram Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Abhilaksh Joshi, the authorities took suo motu cognisance of the matter after the video surfaced on social media and are filing a case under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 125 (causing injury) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Sector 56 police station. Three special teams have been established to capture the identified accused.
“Raids are being conducted at various locations, Joshi said, adding that strict legal action would be taken against those found involved,” the officer informed.
