Two terrorists were killed in a joint operation by the Indian Army, the paramilitary forces, and the Jammu and Kashmir police in the Majalta area in the Udhampur district. The Indian Army, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a search operation on Wednesday evening (September 16, 2026) around 9 pm after some inputs were received about suspicious movement of some individuals in the area.
The security forces cordoned off the area and started a search operation. Subsequently, an encounter broke out between the security forces and the terrorists during the search operation. The security forces carried out a few rounds of firing and blasts targeting a suspected hideout, which resulted in two terrorists being neutralised. “During the ensuing gunfight, two terrorists have been killed. The operation is still going on in the area. The exact identity of the slain terrorists is being ascertained,” the officials reportedly said on Thursday (September 17, 2026).

As per reports, a terror module linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba was busted by Rajouri Police in the Pir Panjal region two days ago, on September 15, 2026. Three individuals were arrested in connection with the module, which was an overground worker (OGW) network. The arrestees were identified as Zakir Hussain s/o Ghulam Hussain (a resident of Kotcharwal Teryath in Rajouri), Mohd Azam s/o Ali Bahadur (a resident of Kotcharwal Teryath), and Mohd Mushtaq s/o Mohd Iqbal (a resident of Udhan in Rajouri).
According to police, the arrested individuals facilitated the movement of terrorists in the Kashmir Valley. They were involved in providing logistical support, safe transit, and other ground-level assistance to terrorists. They are also said to have provided ground support to terrorists who carried out several high-profile terror attacks, including a terror attack in which civilians were targeted.
Following the interrogation of the accused, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was also recovered based on their disclosure. Initial investigation revealed that the IED was handed over to the accused by some terrorists to keep in safe custody until it is used in a possible terrorist attack. Police are investigating the activities of the terror network.
The security forces have intensified vigilance and surveillance in Jammu and Kashmir due to increased terrorist movement and activities in the region. Last month, Jammu and Kashmir Police busted a terror module that facilitated terrorist infiltration, resulting in increased terrorist activities and terrorist movements in the Jammu region.
The J&K Police arrested the terror module’s kingpin, Mohd Lateef alias Haji Lateef, along with 8 overground workers identified as Akhter Ali, Saddam, Kushal, Noorani, Maqbool, Liaquat, Kasim Din, and Khadim. The module played a key role in receiving the foreign terrorists after their illegal and surreptitious entry into India in the Samba-Kathua sector.
