The Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) “School Thik Karo Abhiyan” has come under scrutiny in Assam after a school cook-helper revealed that members of the party’s team, posing as government officials, threatened her and took away the school key during their visit. The incident took place on Monday, 28th September.
She disclosed, “They introduced themselves as government officials and demanded the keys to the school, and I gave them the keys. I am not that educated, so I gave them the keys as they forced me to give them.”
Palasbari MLA Himangshu Shekhar Baishya has also hit back at the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) following a confrontation during the party’s visit to a government school in Rampur. Baishya said that the CJP team entered the school without permission and obtained its keys after introducing themselves as government officials.
The MLA’s revelations came after a CJP team visited Khidirpukhuri LP School in Rampur to inspect its condition. The team included CJP Co-Convenor Ashutosh Ranka, North East In-Charge Ankit Bhardwaj, Joint Secretary Alsh Pream and Core Coordinator Sheikh Sahil Uddin Sha, along with around 30 volunteers.
MLA says CJP members posed as government officials
According to Baishya, the school was closed when the CJP members arrived. He stated that some members entered the premises and managed to obtain the school keys after claiming that they were government officials.
The revelation is also in line with the account given by the school’s cook-helper, who said members of the CJP team told her that they were government officials. While speaking to the Assamese channel The Truth India (Satya), she highlighted that the team threatened her and took away the school key. The woman also expressed concern that she could be subjected to action over the incident.

Meanwhile, Baishya said the school cook later sought help and informed that he had asked the authorities to register an FIR because the incident involved a government institution.
The MLA also questioned why a political organisation needed to enter a closed government school without authorisation. He urged people with genuine complaints about schools or other public facilities to approach him or the concerned authorities.
CJP claims it was invited by local residents
CJP has given a different account of the incident. The party alleged that its team had visited the school after receiving a purported invitation from local residents who wanted them to look into problems with the institution.
Ashutosh Ranka argued that two or three BJP workers reached the school and obstructed the CJP team from carrying out its visit. According to him, the purpose of the visit was to understand the problems faced by students and residents and outline the condition of the school.
Baishya, however, criticised the political leaders associated with the CJP team and charged that local issues were being used to create confrontation rather than solve problems.
The MLA said he had been elected from Palasbari only three to four months ago and was already working to address grievances raised by residents. He maintained that political groups should not enter closed government institutions without proper permission.
CJP’s wider attempt to create unrest in Assam
The controversy came amid CJP’s wider attempt to create unrest in Assam. Ashutosh Ranka, the party’s co-convener and spokesperson, had reached the state as the organisation prepared to hold its first regional volunteers’ meeting in Guwahati. The party had also said it planned to raise alleged issues concerning schools and families affected by changes to electoral rolls.
On 27th September, Assam Police detained Ranka along with several other CJP leaders and volunteers shortly before the scheduled meeting. CJP contended that the road leading to the venue was barricaded and that volunteers were stopped from reaching the location. The party also claimed that police detained around 50 people, although that number could not be independently verified.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke alleged that Ranka and other members were being taken to an unknown location. “Assam Police has detained Ashutosh Ranka and the CJP team and is taking them to an unknown location,” Dipke posted on X.
Ranka had been in Assam as the party had planned to create unrest in Assam and the Northeast after the National Capital. Before the meeting, Ranka had said the CJP would meet families of ineligible voters and illegal immigrants whose names were removed after the revision of electoral rolls.
In his social media posts about Assam, Ranka alleged that authorities were trying to stop the CJP from raising questions about schools, land and other issues.
