Delhi Police ACP Vivek Bhagat has been assigned the current duty charge of Additional DCP, a day after the police debunked AI-generated and manipulated visuals that were circulated online to portray him as molesting a woman during the Jantar Mantar protest.

The development comes amid a controversy that erupted after October 3, when Rosy, a worker associated with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) who had presented herself as an independent journalist, accused Bhagat of sexually harassing her while she was covering the detention of a protester.
The allegations quickly spread across social media, accompanied by purported photographs and CCTV visuals allegedly showing Bhagat molesting her. However, Delhi Police subsequently fact-checked one of the key visuals and said that the purported CCTV image was AI-generated/manipulated and fake.
“FACT CHECK: The post contains AI-generated/manipulated visuals. The CCTV footage image is fake,” Delhi Police said in a post on X, warning users against circulating the material and cautioning that legal action could follow against those responsible for spreading such content.

The official X account of the Delhi Police has also issued another clarification over social media claims that female protesters were subjected to physical assault.
OFFICIAL CLARIFICATION Some social media handles are claiming that female protesters were subjected to physical assault. These allegations are baseless and misleading. Female protesters are handled by female staff and are treated with dignity and due regard. Detentions and releases are carried out in accordance with the applicable law and prescribed procedures. Male protesters who were detained were released within the stipulated time period, following due process of law. Any claim suggesting otherwise is factually incorrect and does not reflect the actual sequence of events. #OfficialClarification #DPUpdates

ACP Bhagat gets Additional DCP charge
Against this backdrop, the Delhi Government’s Home Department has assigned Bhagat the current duty charge of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police.
Bhagat is among 12 DANIPS officers included in the administrative order. He was previously serving as SDPO, Connaught Place, in the New Delhi district.
The timing is notable: the officer’s elevation comes shortly after Delhi Police exposed the viral visual used to portray him as a perpetrator of molestation as fake and AI-generated/manipulated.
The administrative order, however, appears to be part of a routine process involving DANIPS officers and should not be interpreted as a finding on the allegations. The current duty charge is an interim arrangement and does not by itself confer the regular seniority, pay or other benefits attached to the Additional DCP post.
