Bangladesh’s former Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus was chosen to lead the interim government two days before the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina government. His propaganda chief Shafiqul Alam made the revelation in a Facebook post on Wednesday (October 28, 2026).
In the Facebook post, he wrote that the conspiracy to overthrow Sheikh Hasina as Bangladesh’s Prime Minister and replace her with Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus was hatched in complete secrecy. Alam said Yunus was chosen to be the Chief Advisor two days before the Hasina government was ousted.
Alam wrote that Bangladeshi investigative journalist Qadaruddin Shishir reached out to Yunus on behalf of ‘student leaders’ to invite him to head the interim government. “When student leaders wanted to reach out to Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus and invite him to head the interim government in a post-Hasina scenario, they needed a trusted bridge-builder. Qadaruddin Shishir stepped up to fulfill that critical role,” Alam wrote, adding that Shishir “managed this high-stakes operation in complete secrecy”.
“Only a select few trusted individuals knew what was happening. It was Shishir who first approached the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner on behalf of the student leaders and facilitated the initial talks between the two parties,” Alam further wrote, revealing that this happened two days before Hasina was hounded out of the country by the so-called student protesters.
“Hasina would remain in power for two more days, yet her brutal security machine—notorious for mass killings and abductions—never caught a whisper of it. Had they discovered what was happening, Shishir and our entire AFP team would likely have ended up in an Aynaghar (house of mirrors secret prison),” Alam said.
The Awami League government led by Hasina was overthrown on August 5, 2024, following the violent July Revolution disguised as a ‘student uprising’. A bloodthirsty mob of thousands of protesters breached security perimeters and marched toward the prime minister’s official residence. The Bangladesh Army told Hasina that security forces could no longer contain the mob.
Amid that situation, Hasina formally resigned and was hastily evacuated alongside her younger sister, Sheikh Rehana. They were airlifted by a Bangladesh Air Force helicopter from the prime minister’s official residence to Tejgaon Airport and then flown out on a military transport plane. She sought refuge in India, where she was allowed in on humanitarian grounds.
Alam termed Hindu organisations “pet dogs” of Hasina
What ensued after the overthrow of the Hasina government was nothing less than hell for Bangladesh’s Hindu minorities. Religious minorities, particularly Hindus, faced brutal persecution at the hands of Islamists in Bangladesh. When local Hindu organisations and other minority groups flagged the atrocities against minorities before the Yunus regime, Shafiqul Alam dismissed their concerns, calling them “pet dogs” of the Sheikh Hasina government.
Moreover, Alam went on to claim that the minority Hindu community was more protected in Bangladesh under the rule of the interim government than they were during the administration of deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
