Neighbour rescues girl after hearing commotion
Adnan, a 24-year-old resident of Perumani near Arakkappady in Perumbavoor, entered the girl’s house at around 2 pm on Monday and attacked her with a knife. The girl sustained injuries to both her hands while trying to defend herself.
According to media reports, Adnan dragged the girl outside her house and attempted to slit her throat with the knife. Hearing the commotion, a young neighbour rushed to intervene and managed to stop the accused. The neighbour also suffered knife injuries during the struggle.
Describing the incident, the neighbour said, “I saw her being dragged out of her home with a knife near her neck. I went near and managed to stop the attacker. In this fight, I got injured by the knife. But I was able to save the girl.”
Adnan fled before the police reached the spot. Following information from residents, police personnel and residents searched the surrounding area and eventually found him hiding in bushes in a nearby forested area. He resisted arrest but was overpowered.
The accused had secured bail in the POCSO case weeks ago
According to the police, the original POCSO case against Adnan was registered on 8th August, 2026, following a complaint of sexual assault involving the minor girl. He had spent nearly two and a half months in judicial custody before securing bail on 18th October.
Following the fresh attack, police arrested Adnan and produced him before the Perumbavoor court on Tuesday, 3rd November. The court remanded him to judicial custody. However, while police personnel were taking him to jail after the proceedings, he attempted to escape from the court premises.
