Airtel set to challenge Starlink with the launch of Satellite Internet services in India, awaiting govt approval

Telecom giant Airtel is all set to launch its satellite internet services in India pending approval from the central government, Rajan Bharti Mittal, Vice Chairman of Bharti Enterprises, revealed during an interview with ANI.

Airtel has completed the setup of its base stations in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu and is now awaiting final government approval to begin operations. Speaking about the launch, Rajan shared that they are ready to introduce satellite services in India as soon as the necessary clearances are granted.

With 635 satellites already in orbit and services active in various global markets, Airtel is well-positioned to make its mark. Rajan also highlighted their intention to offer satellite internet at a “decent price,” focusing on serving remote areas.

This development could present a major challenge for Starlink, which is also keen to enter the Indian market but is still awaiting regulatory approval. Starlink’s relatively higher pricing could make Airtel’s more affordable offering a strong competitor.
